An Orchard in the City

The Fall Creek Gardens orchard is located at the north end of the property and boasts a wide range of fruit-bearing species with an emphasis on native trees and shrubs. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) has donated all of the trees and shrubs in the orchard, as well as provided volunteers for planting.  KIB continues to be a wonderful source of support:  thank you, KIB, for making this gift to our gardens and to the community!

What Fruits Do We Grow?

Our orchard is still in its infancy with most of the young saplings still requiring a few years of growth before they will bear fruit. We did, however, have our first nectarine this summer, and the serviceberries and gooseberries have been productive from the start.  Here is a list of what we will be harvesting in years to come:

  • Serviceberries
  • Apples
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Paw Paws
  • Pecans
  • Gooseberries
  • Currants
  • American Plums
  • Persimmons
